Since Phillip "Sensor" Bromley hasn't logged in for 5 days, I thought it best to ask here:

The formula for sensor range is:

2 * rounddown(Ln(Number of Sensors)) + 1

Are my calculations correct, in that:;

0-2 sensors = range 1

3-7 sensors = range 3

8-20 sensors = range 5

21-54 sensors = range 7

55-148 sensors = range 9

and so forth?

Thanks in advance for any clarification.

I thought it was total sensors+1 for range, minus som from the corners. o 1 sensor is directly adjacent squares (no diagonals), 2 is 2 squares on either side with 1 on each diagonal corner, and so on.

That's how it was explained to me Derrik

No Derrik, try flying around with a sensor 8 ship - the range is 5, not 8.

Ezekiel, you are correct

The formula is right there with all of the variables, you did the math correct.
Using the standard calc that comes with all PCs (switched to scientific mode) you can find the ln button (natural log).

Now the scanning rules page is a bit wonky (as all of them tend to be)
http://www.swcombine.com/rules/?Scanning
I have no idea why the rules pages can never make sense, but for some silly reason it lists the example of range (section 1.1) under sensor power (section 2.1) the blue box example.

Ah have access to a ship with 1 Sensors but the range is 2, another ship with 2 Sensors with a range of 3, a vehicle with 3 Sensors with a range of 4, another ship with 4 Sensors with a range of 5, another ship with 5 Sensors with a range of 6, 3 ships each with 8 Sensors that all have a range of 9 (would say something about the Stats but that's a restricted topic)

Don't have access to anything with 6 or 7 Sensors so they might be different

Sounds more like a bug that you have been abusing since there has been no news about the sensor equation being changed.

Not abusing anything, only going by what the stats say (and show when in the cockpit)

I noticed the same thing ... I came out of inactivity and my fighters now have a range of 2, my caps with sensor 8 looks the same but may have an extra range added to them as well. I thought you guys changed it.

My ship stats also show a range of 2, but I've noticed that the actual range is only 1.

Are you counting the square you are in?

It has Changed Tiali ... last time I played 4 years ago a fighter with a 1 sensor only showed the contents of the square you are one and now it doubled in size.

Now it includes the square you are in, possibly because people couldn't quite figure it out (maybe thinking that the Sensors meant the number of squares away from your ship, with 0 Sensors just showing what shares your square with you)

It could be ... but then how would you scan a ship on your square without sensors ;)

With your eyes? :P

Ah said "showing what shares your square with you", if you wanted more detail then you needed to get a ship with Sensors

Well each square in a system is one square AU. It would make sense if we went back to sensors of 1 was only the square you are on, because you wouldn't be able to see every thing by eyesight on your square. No in the atmosphere or on the ground it would make sense to have the square you are on plus the range of your sensors.

Before this gets out of hand, ah have no idea why they changed things or even how things work, just trying to figure things out from a personal point of view
