I have a Nu-class and recently bought a whole bunch of small backpacks for resale. I had them loaded on my ship individually, but when it came to unloading them all, I decided to repack them into crates. However, my strength is not enough to pick up a cargo container with 8 small backpacks inside. The take item button is useful for just such an occurrence, but 7 crates full of small backpacks fill the entire volume of a Nu-class, so I can't reduce the number of packs inside the crates so that I can carry them out.

Any helpful administrators, please DM. Thank you.

Can you dock into another entity, use the Move Items: Load Entity option to get some/all of the cargo crates off, and be able to unpackage the rest?

I would, but I've completely unloaded my ship of all my stuff in the hopes of unpacking these cargo crates, and I don't want to lose it.

If you do it quick enough, unless someone is standing beside you you should get it sorted before anyone notices

Or do you mean there isn't even any more room for you to get back onboard to move the ship?

Hal, you don't need to dock into another entity, just be in the same location as another entity you can enter.

Uli, you can use the Move into room option with the drop down menu to get the items to the entrance room - your strength won't matter. Then from there load the items into another entity. If you don't actually own another one, land on a planet and unload from there onto the ground. If you are afraid of other players, land in a terrain square (not a city) as its highly unlikely there will be a player there. Plus you can always use your scanners to see if any other entites/players are near anyway. Then just unload into the terrain, unpack as you need, then use the load into entity option again to shuffle them back in - depending on the weight you many need to unload some more crates so there is space to overfill your ship.

Not that you really should be overfilling things and getting around code that way...

Does a terrain square count as an entity for the Move To, Ellias? I haven't played with it that much.

I would suspect as much as a city does - I've not really been in a bare terrain grid for a while, and certainly not with items to test on.

Now that you mention it...
I have been a store-person and dealt with boxes most of my life.
Manufactured stuff that you buy in RL almost always packs into a smaller box/carton/crate.
Like at Christmas time when that toy is missing the 'whatsa ma call it' and you try to pack it back into the box it came in, to return/complain about it, it never quite fits again and thats with a part missing!!.

When i started SWC a year ago i thought it was great that the game admins actually thought about it and programmed that into the game. yeaaaa

Ohhh No, after a bug fix, some of that stuff was ''FIXED'' eek lol

Have you ppl never heard of IKEA, we have them in Australia, its amazing what they can fit into a box. but thats an extreme, that illustrates my point.

Just a point of view. This would have saved a lot of time coding. hehe

Uh, we're talking about loading items into an entity, like a ship, not packaging items back into their crate...

Sometimes (haven't tried it for a while) you can get away with packing a crate or 2 into a Large backpack, if you managed to have one out of a crate and best to have it equipped. Also if you have any passengers (NPCs or droids for example) get them off first, sort out your equipment then you can reload the passengers and actually go over the weight/volume limit, ut you won't be able to move anything once you start travelling.

Come to Darwin and see if you can find an IKEA. Sadly they're only found down south, like Myer.

Anyway, on the subject:

I have encountered this bug before in the form of using double the volume capacity of a ship, so yeah, i'd say its not quite fixed.
