When I downloaded images to my hard drive to speed up loading of pages, and then entered the path to them on my HD, nearly ALL buttons and images on site disappeared!!! Can someone help me with that, please?

Yes. You ditch the images and go back to server load because the image pack still needs to be recompiled.
