You all read by now about the spectacular deal that made the Disney company the new owner of the whole range of companies formerly owned by George Lucas (Lucas Arts, Lucas Films, ILM etc) and thus puts the future of the Star Wars brand into their hands. We are excited to know that Star Wars will be in the hands of a top class company like Disney. Disney was build on imagination and creativity, just like Star Wars, and made it its core business to bring dreams to life. It has a proven track record of quality entertainment and only recently it demonstrated how well it is able to breath fresh life into a classic brand with Marvel. So we have high hopes for Star Wars in the hands of Disney.

At the same time, we are very much aware that the deal may have consequences for the Combine, as we so far lived on the generosity of the copyright holders that allowed our work to continue for almost 14 years now. We are also aware that Disney may decide to take whole areas of Star Wars related products in a new direction, as they already announced to do for games (see http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/48247/lucasarts-focus-mobile-social-gaming), the area most relevant to us. We will closely watch the latest developments in all areas (e.g. for comics see http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=41930) and do what we can to keep the Combine alive and well.

If you want to discuss the effects of the Disney deal on Star Wars, you can do it in this forum thread: http://www.swcombine.com/forum/thread.php?thread=57681.
