Second Uli Memorial Swap Meet branded a success; Third one planned
Hacked by: Calli Qirce, The B`omarr Order
Date: Year 17 Day 204 Location Unknown

Following the resounding success of the first event, The Knights of the Fountain announced that it would host The Second Uli Memorial Swap Meet on the moon, Millus Prime, of the Iego system. It was held from Day 176 to 182 of Year 17.

This Swap Meet was open to all members and races of the galaxy, modeled on the spirit of openness that the Jawa Uli-ah Gafsa brought to his swap meets. A location in the northeast was chosen as the previous meet was held in a southern sector of the galaxy. Attendees were encouraged to bring wares and an ample amount of credits to buy, sell or trade, whether the amount of business was big or small. But the Meet served a second purpose as well - a social event for citizens to be able to interact with each other in-person at the market place, go hunting together, show off their favorite pets and assets, or to converse over the open comms line.

Many days before it officially began, visitors arrived early to set up their sites. The well-armed guests went to outlying areas beyond the Meet itself to hunt the local fauna. By the first day, dozens of vendors were selling wares out of the back of their tents or freighters. Individual traders and well-known companies were set up side-by-side showcasing a wide variety of wares. Most sellers offered an assortment of equipment, armor, weapons, droids, exotic pets, or medical items of some kind.

For the opening ceremony, host Cadeus Iram gave a rousing speech, transcribed by an attendee:

"Hello all. On behalf of myself, Tolando, and the entire Knights of the Fountain I would like to welcome you to the Second Uli Memorial Swap Meet. Before I continue, I would like to take a moment to remember the light that was Uli-ah Gafsa. Uli brought a unique idea to this galaxy, an idea of bringing players together for a week of fun, trading and all around togetherness. Without his initial efforts, this meet would simply not exist. Uli was a friend to myself and many others, and through these meets we aim to continue and expand his work as we strive to honor his legacy.

A big thank you to our sponsors and donations from the likes of CorEx, Odama's Outpost, the Duros Union and everyone else, and also thank you to the Black Sun for helping to set this up and allowing for safe travels to everyone attending the Meet through their space.

So everyone, please have fun, trade, and get to know one another. Feel free to partake in the Krieg's Run, the Speeder Trials, the CorEx credit raffle and more that will be announced later on this week. So once again on behalf of myself, Tolando and the entire Knights of the Fountain: Welcome to all, thank you for coming, and please have a great time."

As the crowd cheered, some participants had already hopped in their speeders, anxious to begin at the initial starting point for the Speeder Trials, which required them to visit checkpoints placed at every section of the moon with a final cumulative time tabulated at the finish line. Others headed to orbit to begin Krieg’s Run. Amidst all of the excitement, one woman collapsed and had to be quickly carried back to her medical ship, later explained by the announcement of the birth of a daughter.

Throughout the meet, many giveaways by attendees pleased the crowd, who were happy to receive free droids, vehicles and credits. Pazaak gambling had been ongoing throughout the week, but then at the tail end, some participants began playing Holochess also, leading Looma Karwt to create a tournament that would begin after the Meet. CorEx sponsored a daily credit raffle, with one winner each day of 5 million credits, and three winners of 10 million credits each at the end. Entries were logged by the hailing of an official Meet ship each day.

On the night of Day 177, an outdoor music festival was hosted by Esmerelde of Du Bois Vineyards, which was enjoyed by those in attendance. The next morning, she provided a statement about the event to a local reporter:

"It's not that often that you get so many beings of different races and professions together in one place. We had a lot of liquor and wine, so we had a party. The music was a mix of house, trance, hip hop and drum and bass headlined by Xyre Weltmon, and we went through about twenty bottles of sparkling wine, four kegs of ale and two barrels of Whyren's Reserve. Most of that booze was provided by none other than the Dark Lord of the Sith. It was a blast."

Deviating from the theme of trading, instances of charity were present at points, especially toward the end of the week. Lord Lilith Delcroix of SWAT Industries donated a large portion of profit from each sale of a dozen of her custom-designed ship, the JM5000 "Hot Rod" Limited Edition. In total, 42 million credits were given by her to The Ashla Covenant to go towards their charity, Operation Virtuous Deeds, which offers medical and rescue services to anyone in need. Another example was the auction for the body of a woman in carbonite: Fukara Mist. It cost a hefty sum for the eccentric billionaire, Ember Aranyos, who donated Miss Mist’s body to Red Fambaa for a proper burial of their queen.

As the Meet was coming to an end, ex-reporter Calli Qirce went around the main market area, gathering reactions and quotes from the participants, amassing a list of testimonials. The first-timers were very enthusiastic.

Jensen Odama: "Being the first meet I have attended, I didn't know what to expect. I went hoping to meet new friends, make a few creds, and win the Krieg's Run. It far exceeded my expectations. I met some great people, too many to list, and made some creds too. The only disappointment was that I narrowly missed winning the Krieg's Run Time Trials. At least my friend Dorian Skitara was the one who bested me. I had a great time trading, partying, hunting and just hanging out with new friends."

Dobbs Mottley: "I arrived at my first swap meet with a long shopping list but no real expectations; I left already counting the days to the next one. An amazing week filled with great deals, fast machines and opportunities for selfies with well-known sentients... not to mention all the hugs from gorgeous women! If none of that appeals then there is something deeply wrong with your life."

Zorix Zoff: "I flew to Millus Prime expecting to maybe do some trading, hunting, and to meet new people if lucky. I spent WAY more than I should have, bought items I will probably never use, and had a great time doing it. I shared copious amounts of ale with old friends, and in the process made countless new ones. A huge thank you to Cadeus and Tolando for making this wonderfully crazy, eclectic, colorful, and fun event truly unforgettable. What happens at the swap meet, stays at the swap meet.”

Other participants were more succinct.

Venari Haliat: "There was lots of...stuff"

Fritjof Blom: “Swap meet was pretty cool!”

Nenya Plaure: “Oh man, the Swap Meet was great, everyone was so friendly, I came empty handed and left needing, what, two extra hands?”

And some were more reflective on the memorial aspect of it.

Crane Baxa: “Uli exceeded all expectations and as a pirate, we always seem to be able to honor his memory by either robbing, stealing, kidnapping, or killing people in the name of profit. Meet as always was a great success. Place is great to make contacts and new business partners, a great place to start in a larger world of economics.  Least I resisted stealing stuff (Just a joke).”

Jax Starblade: “I didn't know Uli personally, but I appreciate the impact he made on so many folks. He seemed like someone I would have liked to have a drink with, or something. Jawas... good folk! It was a humbling experience - to see some of our most prominent figures walking side by side, trading, partying and having an all-out great time with new sentient beings, and everyone in between, displayed a sense of community I've never witnessed in this galaxy. I came here with little expectations other than to have a good time. To say I've had the time of my life is no understatement.”

Dark Prince Jeor Knight, sponsor: "Black Sun was honored to host the Second annual Uli Swap Meet. It was an amazing success for everyone who attended. There were very few incidents of unscrupulous trading and violent actions and I was very happy with the high caliber of attendees this event attracted. We look forward to continue to provide support for this event in the future. It was a massive economic boom for Shobquix Industries and Black Sun."

During the closing speech by Iram, he thanked everyone for coming and participating, proud of the turnout. Then, the Krieg’s Run host and creator, Tolando Krieg, announced the winners of his race:

“The Krieg's Run Uli Speed Trails have completed. First place - Dorian Skitara, second place - Jensen Odama, third place - Hawke Tanor. Next Saturday I plan to hold a regulation Krieg's Run starting right here if I still have the racers around.”

The Speeder race was officially closed on the last day of the Meet. The winners were announced hours later by host and Duros Union founder Damyo Kruder:

“Ladies and Gentleman, the Speeder Time Trials are now over and our official time trackers have already calculated all pilot times. The first Record Holder and Grand Champion of this special event is… Jax Starblade! Coming in second is Rar Lunko and third is Xesh Randell. Congrats to all!”

Then Damyo handed Jax the large trophy and pointed him toward the grand prize of a Radon-Ulzer 620C pod racer.

The next day, Ms. Qirce followed up with Mr. Kruder.

Calli: "Damyo, please explain what expectations the Duros Union had in hosting this race. Do you feel it was successful in them?"
Damyo: “The Union wanted to offer a new concept of race to the galaxy that would make players use different types of vehicles than they might be used to and at the same time let them explore the full planet by check in at the checkpoint beacons, and of course we wanted to offer that experience free of charge. We were really pleased with the amount of racers that signed up, being them solo or sponsored.”

Race winners Jax Starblade and Dorian Skitara
