Galaxy Fest has drawn to a close, and while the Purrgil invasion on nearby Wynkahthu has kept many hunters and creature poachers in system, the games have left, for now. Most everyone is packing up and heading home or will be shortly. Now, we ask ourselves, “So what will be the lasting legacy of this first ever Galaxy Fest?”

The Tales still to be told

The re-emergence of Ithorian Herdships to the galaxy will be a topic to watch. As up to ten of these new wonders are built, the sight of living flora floating in the inky void of space will be a wonderous occasion. However, will these new owners follow the vision and precepts of the Ithorian clan leaders who originally created the concept, or will they be used for other purposes? Will any alternative purposes be in line with, or diametrically opposed to the culture of the creators? Only time will tell if their new proliferation will lead to prosperity or angst among the peaceful Ithorians. Expect Shili Free Press to be reaching out to those building and operating these new herdships over time and tracking this developing story.

There were rumors of a budding romance between Miss Tootsy and Doctor Jimbo. Will these two budding love birds be able to make it work in a cruel galaxy and in spite of their touring carnival lifestyle?

What about the newfound cache of battleships like the Acclamator-class Assault Ship and the CR-92R Battle Corvette? Will these ships be used for new skirmishes breaking out across the galaxy? Or could the rapid expansion of military might force aggressors to reconsider their actions and bring about tenuous cold wars in areas of conflict?

What happened to the Wookiee selling creatures at GalaxyFest? We were unable to confirm if he even had a permit to sell livestock. Was his breeding operation humane? Why do we call it humane anyways, why does it have to be humano-centric? Were those poor animals the product of an illegal mill over-run with in-breeding? Will all those poor creatures suffer long term physical ailments and require increased medical care over time?

Counterfeit medical goods were running rampant at Galaxy Fest. Pat Mueirech seized at least 6 crates of counterfeit medical items on behalf of the Galactic Government to try to keep the attendees safe. But how many were placed into distribution before they could be confiscated or without authorities being alerted? How many sentients could be harmed by these poisoned pharmaceuticals?

And what about the sudden emergence of the Purrgils, often called space whales, and the fact that hundreds of the young of these space faring creatures have been forced into captivity? Will this have an impact to the galactic tibannagas market as these babes need to be fed? How will these creatures fare when taken out of their natural habitat and used for fighting or simply placed on display by the rich?

What will happen to all those lost children who were never reunited with their parents? Will the galaxy see an uptick in child trafficking and slavery? Who will guide them once everyone has departed from Bright Jewel? The clan elders of Aleena have set up a shelter for many of them, but it is unclear if they can handle the incoming swarm of snot-nosed brats.

There are very serious concerns about the long-term economic impacts of Galaxy Fest as well. The market has seen plummeting prices as many traders and moguls sold off valuable wares at lower than typical prices to raise money to obtain the newly available technologies. Will prices continue to fall or stabilize at these lower levels? Will the seemingly unstoppable power of inflation buoy those prices back up to their old levels? Certainly, the upcoming swap meet in about three weeks’ time will provide some answers to that question.

Will the re-emergence of Shili Free Press on the Galactic News Service continue, or will they return to being a local media source only? Does anyone other than their underpaid reporting staff care?

Only time will be able to tell how far and wide the ramifications of Galaxy Fest will spread. But until these questions, and more, are answered, we here at Shili Free Press hope you stay safe out there.
