Tythe System, Savareen Sector -- In a shocking display of strength and coordination, a Resistance-led coalition of former Republic and Galactic Alliance units rallied in the Savareen sector and secured a decisive series of victories in the name of the Rebel Alliance within just a few days. The victories come as a welcome relief to the sector's many citizens who long feared that any liberation could only be the result of a prolonged and costly campaign. While it remains unclear exactly what resources the Alliance forces have at their disposal, this stunning turn of events confirms that their capabilities have been vastly underestimated.
The Galactic Museum in the Tyrius system and the Tythe system's array of key research stations made control of the sector a priority of the Imperial Union, and the local rebellion spreading throughout the newly conquered Imperial territory had been quickly crushed in Savareen. Imperial defenses were commonly viewed as impenetrable. Political and military analysts, including rebel-sympathizing pundits, were pessimistic of the probabilities of pushing back against the Imperial domination of former-Republic space. With the remnant of the former Republic's military engaged in battles for the shipyards in the Sluis sector and the Resistance tied down supporting insurgencies elsewhere across neighboring sectors, there seemed little hope that enough forces could be mustered to rekindle any rebellion at Sevareen.
All that changed on D144 when the Rebel Alliance and Resistance forces arrived in the Tythe system, taking the complacent Imperial defenders by surprise. Additional strike forces simultaneously launched assaults on the sector's other systems, bolstered by elements from the Galactic Alliance. This joint attack on numerous fronts overwhelmed Imperial Forces leading to a full-scale withdrawal. Many up to this point believed the Rebel Alliance's personnel deployed to Sluis constituted the entirety of the former-Republic fleet and that the Resistance's ability was limited to sabotage and insurgency.
Following the Imperial withdrawal from Savereen, Resistance Major General William Siethr had this to say at a press conference onboard the Galactic Museum, which shockingly remained mostly unharmed in the course of the battle, "Despite the ferocity of their initial attack, it has always been clear that the Imperial forces do not have the capability to enforce their will on the citizens of the outer rim. This occupation was clearly a brutal and cowardly attack meant to cripple the industrial capabilities of the worlds present here, and while significant damage has been done, along with the loss of countless civilian lives that can never be replaced, Resistance forces were able to force the Imperials into an early retreat as well as shielding numerous worlds from likely bombardment. It will take some time for the outer rim to recover from this disaster, and The Resistance is ready to commit significant forces to guarding these worlds while they recover."
During their retreat, Imperial forces damaged or destroyed much of the sector's infrastructure, including hyperspace beacons, trade platforms, shipyards, and research stations. The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but initial surveys estimate repairs may take years, depending on whether the sector can expect assistance from outside corporations and governments, and whether an Imperial counterattack materializes. Rebel Alliance and Resistance officials reassured the citizens of Sevareen that they remained dedicated, "...to pushing back any remaining remnants of the Imperial occupation and restoring the freedoms you formerly enjoyed as citizens of the New Republic. We must dedicate ourselves to refining and reforming so that all sentients, regardless of race, of systems and sectors like yours can exist without the fear of Imperial subjugation that you have suffered."
