When the HB-11 first came into service, it suffered from two teething problems. First was the tendency of the barrel to overheat even after only limited sustained fire and second it's relatively low stopping power for a heavy blaster of this size. Originally intended to be used as an anti-starfighter gun for the infantry, the project was almost canceled because of the shortcomings the weapon had.The deficiencies of this weapon were soon overcome after several relatively minor modifications were made. The barrel was reinforced with extra durasteel to help combat overheating and the cyclic rate of fire was increased by cleverly installing a microprocessor to precisely manage the power output of the 100 shot powercell. With overheating eliminated and the relatively weak stopping power compensated for by having more bolts strike the target in a shorter amount of time this weapon became a fearsome complement to infantry squads.Although it never excelled at providing anti-starfighter defense due to a lack of a targeting control system, the weapon was capable of quickly eliminating waves of attacking infantry or light battle droids.
