TT-8L Sentry (Security)
Table of Contents [hide]

The TT-8L Sentry droid, nicknamed “tattletale”, was a model of the security droid surveillance system manufactured by Serv-O-Droid, Inc. This type of model was also known as the Gatekeeper droid, as it was installed in doors and gates to screen visitors and unsuspecting guests for weapons. Serv-O-Droid, Inc. manufactured and sold this model to anyone with an interest in keeping their valuables and areas secure.

TT-8L Sentry droids were considered invasive and obnoxious, often barking in a metallic voice at the unfortunate sentient or droid who encountered them. TT-8L Sentry droids, although autonomous mechanical units with targeted programming, appear at times to enjoy their job, often laughing at one’s frustration in dealing with the droid.

The design of the TT-8L Sentry droid is one of simplicity. It consists of a round base with four mounting braces, an extending metal shaft with a communication module attached to the top, and three fully hinged joints that allow for it to be packed up for transportation as well as raising and lowering its height. The extending eyestalk shaft allows the orange photoreceptor at the end to extend and retract. The photoreceptor has grooved metal plates that can be engaged by the droid to protect its photoreceptor from damage when necessary. Often, the droid will use these metal plates to simulate a blink, as a human would do with their eyelids. TT-8Ls are installed in a door or gateway with a peephole for them to protrude from when required to perform their programming. Being completely immobile, the TT-8L has to be carried and then installed, often mounted to the door itself or to the ground where it could access the peephole.

TT-8L Sentry droids are wired into the network system of the facility they are installed in. This allows them to relay who is requesting entrance and to receive approval or denial from their master. The Sentry droid can also function as a holocam, allowing the user to see what the Sentry droid sees. In current times, some programming may be set to just notify the master who has entered or boarded an entity that the Sentry droid has been deployed upon.

TT-8L Sentry droids were originally used by the rich to secure their yachts and palaces. Due to the proficiency of the droid and their programming, the use of these droids has spread throughout the galaxy to many walks of life. From politicians to pirates. The Sentry droid has been deployed on a multitude of entities; some examples are starships, warehouses, yachts,  fortresses, and even mines.
