Bachani is a type of herbaceous, flowering plant often associated with Ithorian gardens. The plant has tall stalks, which can reach over two metres in height, wide, spatulate leaves and large, eight petalled purple flowers that exude a delectable, sweet fragrance, especially around dawn and dusk. This coincides with the peak activity cycle of a number of hummingbird-like species that the plant depends on for pollination, although it can be artificially pollinated without difficulty in greenhouses or on planets where the original native pollinators are not present. One of the more famed incidence of Bachani use was in the restoration of Telos IV after the planet had been rendered lifeless by orbital bombardment during the Jedi Civil War. Extracts from the sap, flowers and seeds of the Bachani plant are known to have pharmaceutical uses, including as potent aphrodisiacs, which makes the smuggling of Bachani extract a lucrative activity for many small time criminal and smuggling operations.
