The Avedame plant is a fungus-like tree first categorized in the Jasserak Highlands on the planet Drongar. Like most plants on that planet, the Avedame starts life as a spore that is dispersed from the parent tree’s white, feathery sporangia. These spores drift on the wind until they land on a suitable, moist substrate, when they germinate, sprouting a network of hyphae and rhizoids which rapidly absorb the available nutrients, growing and thickening until they can support the growth of a thick vertical stalk. Over a period of several years, the stalk and supporting network of hyphae and rhizoids grow, developing a strong yet elastic outer skin. The stalk will begin growing branch like structures at around two years of age, and these branches will begin to bear a red-purple fruit after another two years. This fruit can be consumed fresh, the purple flesh within having a tart yet sweet flavour, but is more commonly used to produce a kind of wine that bears the same name as the plant. This wine has found favour in many middle-to-upper class societies, and so the Avedame plant itself is now cultivated in secured greenhouses on a number of worlds.
