At the height of the first Galactic Civil War, Atgar SpaceDefense Corporation designed their 1.4 FD P-Tower laser cannon as a reply to the growing demand for anti-vehicle ordnance. Technological advances in military manufacturing also enabled the mass production of the 1.4 FD and resulted in its widespread usage across the galaxy.
Built on a conical base, the Atgar features a protective dish directly behind its single barrel. Designed to protect the gunner, the dish features a built-in target scope and sensor to help accommodate the operator's lack of true line-of-sight.
The charge behind the cannon's punch is often provided by a battery located in the base; however, an independent generator is required for efficient use in battle. The energy is directed from the battery through sixteen micropower routers located on the concave surface of the dish, although only one router needs to break in order to render the entire turret useless.
Despite being seen as a relic of the first Galactic Civil War by larger organizations, the 1.4 FD continues to see frequent use in defensive grids across the galaxy.
