The galaxy is a wondrous place. Unravelling the mysteries of the galaxy and, by extension, those the universe holds, can be a tedious undertaking. In order to do so Research Centres provide all the required means, by which the scholar and scientist can study, explore, invent and ascertain the laws of physics.

Not everything in the universe can be measured or even understood, but the few things that escape the firm grasp of science are subject to theological debate, and thereby considered taboo to science. Everything else can, and should be, analysed and probed. As a result, every so often the attempt to wrestle the universe for answers cumulates in a ground-breaking discovery.

Research Centres are built by any given race, corporation or government, as they further their agendas with technological advances and military development. These large complexes provide enough room for several laboratories, offices and supply facilities. Usually, they also have a security detail stationed inside depending on the importance of the research done inside the complex. Each facility has a docking bay attached to the main building to provide access for vehicles or supply transports.

Various configurations are available for the complexes during the design process. They range from genetics, physics and optics to weapons and propulsion to more arcane disciplines as applied meta-cosmology and multi-dimensional bosonic physics. More advanced configurations are being developed on a regular basis, of course, in other laboratories. The most recent addition is the Minimal Length Hadron Collider; a sub-atomic particle collider, small enough to fit into a single laboratory instead of utilising large underground facilities that span several kilometres.

The costs of such a facility are always warranted by a significant output of research that is either commercially successful or gives the corporation the edge over their opposition. Some companies, especially those more attuned to warfare, do not utilise their research facilities to the fullest extent. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that many scientists and researchers seek employment with private companies or other factions which embrace research as means of advancement. The most common services of such for-hire scientists often revolve around financially exploitable fields, in short all research and development mainly for starships vehicles, facilities and computer technology.
