| The M-Class is a large luxury liner designed by prominent Mon Calamari shipwrights. An opulent pleasure ship, the M-Class Luxury Liner represents the very definition of comfort and holiday ease. In the time of galaxy-wide conflict, the M-Class had the unusual distinction of being one of the few capital-class starships created by the Mon Calamari that was not converted into a war vessel.
Everything about the M-Class was designed with the passenger's comfort in mind. Spacious personal quarters, nearly a dozen holotheaters, ballrooms, athletic facilities, a wide variety of restaurants — each with a different and tasteful cuisine to cater to the varying tastes of the sentients aboard — and many other forms of entertainment are all offered up for the enjoyment of the passengers.
Created purely for luxury and tourism, the M-Class is weaponless, with limited shields and hull strength. The liners are rarely seen outside of high-traffic space lines and well-guarded sectors without additional support of heavier corvettes or frigates. It is not unusual, however, to find a few fighters docked aboard alongside passenger transports to provide some measure of protection. Similarly true to the ship's purpose as its lack of built-in defenses, the M-Class' engines are stable, but sedate. As time is not a factor for the wealthy on holiday, they are sufficient to propel the ship on a leisurely course through space.
Successfully meeting the demands of tourist clientele, the M-Class has attracted large numbers of devotees who enjoy traveling in style and visiting the various destinations along the way. For others, the luxury liner is a destination unto itself. Though numerous M-Class Luxury Liners remain operation, several details in the design of the starship made production difficult and complicated enough to limit the number in existence and eventually cause ship-builders to abandon the design entirely. Naturally, its rarity makes the ship even more attractive and owning or vacationing aboard and the M-Class continues to be seen as the height of personal wealth and luxury. |
