Created during the early days of the Galactic Civil War, the Golan laser battery is an anti-infantry weapons platform designed to combat large battalions of soldiers. Archived under Golan patent DF.9, the laser battery quickly rose to prominence on many battle-scarred worlds as an inexpensive and powerful alternative to other defensive systems.

The chassis of the battery is a cylindrical tower supporting a disk-shaped turret on which its barrel is mounted. Three personnel can be assigned to man the DF.9: two technicians in the tower with a single gunner in the turret. The entrance to the tower is magnetically sealed, unlocked only by a coded passkey and, upon entering, the gunner must climb further into the turret before he is able to begin firing.

Unlike mobile weapons platforms that run under their own power, the DF.9 requires an external source connected to its rear energy port. Another identifying details are the vents in the sides of the tower, which are needed to alleviate rising internal temperatures caused by the nature of its ordinance. Should a hardware failure result in a loss of the targeting sensor, a manual override has been hardwired in to the system to allow manual operation.

Whether used by rebellions, governments, criminals or wardens, the Golan laser battery continues to provide ample defensive firepower to repel the most carefully planned attacks by enemy infantry.
