Important
Posting on the GNS is a privilege, not a right. Continued misuse of
the GNS will result in the forced removal of your ability to post on the
system. All material on the GNS must be kept entirely in-character,
out-of-character comments about any other person or faction will not be
tolerated.
Important
All topics must be made within the PG-13 rules
While the galaxy is a dark and dirty place, and many of the galaxy's
residents are not above the use of making their torture or executions
public - it should be noted that any such mention should be dealt with
as discreetly as possible, without overly gratuitous or graphic
depictions of sexualized, or any other brutal violence. This is a
family-friendly game, and you should keep your roleplaying to an
acceptable medium not exceeding PG-13 fare.
This is a place to post news, not recruit new members, not inform the
public of your auction, not to say "My group offers cheaper prices than
anybody else!", nor "Buy your ships from my group". If you are going to
refer to a service your faction provides, it should be set up as a news
story akin to "Golden Fish Enterprises posts new record in droid
production" and the content should follow the same format.
All topics should be made from the point of view of a reporter in
front of a camera or as a newspaper reporter writing an article, not
your personal self, not a commercial. If you wish for your character to
play a major role or issue a speech, you may have the reporter quote or
interview your character, but reference should still be made to the
proper format of the news.
Topics detailing major events can be either based on
database-affecting actions taken in the game (ie: if you actually took
over a planet) or actions said to occur outside the limited abilities of
the game-client.
Topics that are not relevant to any database-affecting actions
require the permission of any faction leader/owner whose faction's
actions you choose to godmode. ie: You cannot claim to have recently
destroyed a dozen Star Destroyers without first getting permissions to
assume such a claim from the Emperor.
Topics must not include more than four images as this greatly hampers
dial-up users and there is no purpose 11 images can serve that can't be
just as easily served with 4. Images cannot be more than 400 pixels wide
and 50kb in size.
Any posts not abiding by these guidelines will be deleted and no
compensation will be paid, it is up to anyone posting on the GNS to
inform themselves about the rules. Factions should provide these rules
to anyone they give the GNS Posting privilege to.
Cost to post/hack the GNS is 200,000credits, editing is not permitted.
Information factions may post for only 2,000credits.
The Galactic Government (government with largest population) is in
charge of accepting and declining all topics submitted to the GNS.
Members of the Galactic Government with Post News level 3 or above may
add/remove factions from a list of those authorised to post without
first submitting to the censors. This does not apply to topics that are
hacked in, Galactic Government has no control of the content of those
topics. If a topic is not accepted or declined within 48 hours of being
submitted it is automatically posted. Once it is on the GNS a topic may
not be edited by anyone, regardless of whether it was submitted or
hacked in.
Hacking is only allowed once every 6 hours. In the future a 'Holonet
Transceiver' item will be required to hack the GNS and a
'Scrambler/Descrambler' item will be required for the hacker to attempt
to hide their location. Until Items are introduced, hacking will cost
the standard fee.
If a hacker is unsuccessful in hiding their location all members of
the Galactic Government with level 3 Post News privilege are informed
that 'playerHandle has successfully/unsuccessfully hacked the GNS from
locationXYZ'.
Topics submitted to the censors will automatically display the
location of the poster, a hacked post that was successful in hiding
location displays 'Location Unknown'.
Equations
$rand = rand(-10,10)/100
Chance to Hack GNS: ((($compOps+1)/9)*1.4)+$rand
$hackFail: -10% to chance to hide if hack fails
Chance to Hide Location: resultofHackEqn+$randHack+$hackFail
XP reward for successful hacking: 50 XP
XP reward for successful location hide: 50 XP
