Planet: Crollia
Table of Contents [hide]

The planet Crollia is a lifeless waste of rock in the Corellia system of the Inner Core region. The planet supports absolutely no life and in all likelihood never will. The only possible future use for the planet is a secret Imperial project being proposed by the research and development department.

The planet is listed as cold. That is one of the largest understatements in planetary survey history. The planet temperature varies although it has an annual average of one-hundred degrees Kelvin. These temperatures are severe enough that in themselves they stop any natural life forms to evolve on the planet. The planet supports no atmosphere whatsoever. Therefore any attempt to withstand the extremely sub-zero atmosphere would also have to carry their own form of oxygen. Another problem that would arise is that oxygen that would be stored by any life support systems would be turned to liquid oxygen by the freezing temperatures. The planet is exposed to unnaturally high gravitational levels. Gravity levels this high are not naturally experienced and the only known explanation is a rare mineral found in the composition of the planet. The mineral Anthata is found in abundance on the planet and is credited with the planet's high gravity.

Although the planet Crollia is noted for having such extremely low temperatures, there are points of warmth on the surface. The core of the planet is the extreme opposite of the surface. The core is a highly unstable mass of magma. This unstable center leads to daily eruptions on the planet's surface. The magma that reaches the surface is rapidly cooled and solidified thus sealing any fissures that it is escaping from. This sudden sealing of any vent area causes the surface to be unstable with unpredictable, short-lived eruption spots that exist throughout the planet. Although many would think that this would cause isolated warm spots on the planet, a combination of two factors make it not to be the case. The first of these factors is how extreme the cold on the surface truly is, any heat generated is so rapidly dissipated that it is not even noticed. The second of these is the high levels of Anthata on the planet; the presence of this material serves as an insulator and does not allow for any of the warmth generated by the core to reach the surface.

There is one other factor that is detrimental to any development of the planet. There are severe electromagnetic storms that constantly rage across the surface of the planet. These storms are theoretically impossible due to the fact that the planet has no atmosphere although they do exist and have been documented. It is believed that the rapid heating and cooling of small pockets of thin gas create highly unstable conditions that help to set the stage for these storms. The high levels of Anthata also produce bizarre and unpredictable electromagnetic fields. When these two elements intersect with one another the storms that erupt are both violent and long-lived.
