At one time civilized society ruled Taspir III, until hegemonic war broke out. Prior to the world war which eventually destroyed the Taspirian way of life, Taspir III was ruled by two powers, both of which were the relatively new consolidation of many separate states. Each power exercised control over their own hemisphere and for two centuries a clash between them was avoided by never allowing their two armies to meet on the same battlefield. Instead they engaged in war by proxy, with conflicts being resolved through violence between other states under their control and on the other planets in the system. With so many on either side believing a direct war between them to be inevitable, and going so far as to desire to see it come about, there is some doubt that it was accident, and not sabotage that put the two enemy forces together. While the initial loss of life was negligible, the conflict soon escalated on all fronts until mobilization could not be stopped and they were well on the way toward mutually assured destruction. Within two hundred years the planet had grown over the remains of the old civilization and the evidence of its destruction. Taspir III took on a new life as a domain of pirates and a new haven for lawlessness was born.
