Planet: Chadra
Table of Contents [hide]

A world submerged, planet Chadra has been shaped by turbulent forces. Twirling alone around the blue-white star Chad, astrographic records from ancient surveys indicate that Chadra once had as many as three other companions and nine moons. Each of these stellar bodies has been cast off by the system's treacherous gravitational currents and have never been accounted for. Scholars speculate that the missing worlds were ejected from the galaxy entirely, but Chadra's eccentric pattern and axial equilibrium helped to preserve its position. The native Chadra-Fan were preoccupied with terrestrial concerns and have no records of astronomical events to indicate when these expulsions might have occurred.

Much like the stormy solar system that hosts it, planet Chadra is a world of furious weather. Its surface is regularly battered by powerful cyclones and drenched in nearly constant rain. There is a popular tale that the flatulence of domesticated lactils bred by dairy farmers is responsible for the greenhouse gases that drive the planet's frequent hurricanes, although the actual source of these gases is the endless expanse of reeking primordial swamp. Faced with the destruction wrought by the more powerful tempests and the periodic devastation of colossal ocean waves, the Chadra-Fan build their settlements high up in the canopies of the oldest and largest cyperill trees. A more nomadic lifestyle was introduced by offworld settlers who followed the ocean's algic current, breeding domesticated sea slugs and wander-kelp in autonomous ranch-arks.

With 380 twenty-hour days in a solar year, the seasonal temperature shift is subtle. It's always hot on Chadra, especially at the equator. Besides the sentient, though primitive, Chadra-Fan, this world is also known as the origin of the prolific cy`een species, which have thrived in every ocean they were introduced to. In addition to cy`een hatcheries, the local bildog and proop meats are considered delicacies by many races. The starport at Cyperill Village is carefully maintained by the Chadra-Fan as a vital trade link, offering Chadian products in exchange for technology and supplies. Sheltered from tsunamis by an island, the town is built into Chadra's grandest cyperill grove, although it is still frequently lashed by fierce ocean gales.
