Planet: Bomodon
Table of Contents [hide]

A relatively small world in the Mid Rim, Bomodon is a planet with a varied, but largely wet landscape. A meandering ocean in the southern hemisphere is the main feature of the world's hydrosphere, and is surrounded by marshes and swamps along its coastlines. Tropical jungles span the equatorial region, while much more temperate forestlands can be found further up north and south of each respective hemisphere. These stretches of green, be it forest or jungle, are interspersed with plains of sharp, jagged rock outcroppings with little to no flora and fauna present there, save for some hardy species of mosses and fungi.

The most unique feature of the planet is the fact that it has an unusual rotational axis, which is most noticeable in the distribution of Bomodon's extensive polar caps. Instead of a traditional north-south divide, the polar caps are placed to the east and west of one another when viewed horizontally. The leading scientific theory is that a large celestial object had collided with the planet eons ago, and essentially knocked it over on its side.

Bomodon is the homeworld of a sentient species of the same name. They are a bipedal race of mammalians with elongated, equine features, tall bodies, and hooved feet, who dress in elaborate, brightly coloured clothing. They have been a technologically-advanced people for millennia, yet often played only small roles in galactic events, and were rarely seen outside their star system throughout history. The Bomodon are governed by an oligarchic council consisting of three representatives chosen from among the hundreds of patrician families that all vie for a seat on the council. This has led to the development of a highly dynamic society of political intrigue and shadowy subterfuge, where the middle and lower classes are largely pawns for the elite to move around and manipulate on the proverbial playing board.

During the Great Galactic War roughly four thousand years ago, Bomodon had been attacked and occupied by forces of the Sith Empire. During this time, a Republic troop transport was shot down, although the passengers survived. Under the command of a brave, unrelenting lieutenant, the stranded Republic troopers led a ten-month guerrilla campaign against the Imperial occupiers, and managed to successfully liberate the planet with the help of the Republic's intelligence service. To this day, the native Bomodon celebrate their liberation from the Sith Empire by staging large scale reenactments and theatrical plays of those events all across their world.

During the Clone Wars, Bomodon had chosen a neutral stance in the conflict between the Republic and the Separatists, and maintained their unaligned status and somewhat isolationist policies in the decades that followed. Yet in recent times, Centrepoint Station has managed to obtain rights to the planet from its ruling body, in return for their protection, and support in the continued development of the planet's economy. As a result, Bomodon grew to become a thriving cosmopolitan world in the Mid Rim.
