Planet: Moralan
Table of Contents [hide]

Moralan is the sole planet in its system. It is an aquatic planet, albeit a rather uncharacteristic one. Unlike other planets covered with deep oceans of saltwater, Moralan's depths are actually quite shallow. The deepest parts of the waters covering the planet are much closer in depth to that of rivers and lakes than oceans. This also reduces the salinity of the water, meaning that the planet is—for the most part—covered in freshwater. A limited number of depressions in the surface trap the flow of water, whether either swamps or jungles form depending on the amount of plant growth that occurs in the depressions. The rest of the planet's surface is covered by archipelagos of grassy plains and rocky peaks that dot the river surface.

The planet has a wet and balmy atmosphere due to the planet's proximity to its star. The Moralan Sun evaporates water from the planet-wide river in such quantities that the water immediately converts into a permanent layer of fog. This unique climatological effect only occurs at low altitudes, however, which means that the dry surfaces of the planet are able to receive clear skies to complement the low-hanging cloud effect that covers the surface of the planet. The net effect is a comfortable climate that makes the world quite habitable to a number of different species. In particular, a number of metropolises have formed a semi-developed band in the northern hemisphere across a variety of terrain types, and offers home and work to both meteorologists and physicists that come to Moralan to study the weather, the sentients that work in the local shipyards, and historians that come from around the universe to study the planet's many ruins.

Historically, the planet (and its system) was the location of a monumental battle in Hutt history. Tens of thousands of years ago, the planet had been inhabited by the Moralan species. The Moralan were enslaved by Hutts for a time before they freed themselves from the Hutts with assistance from the Tionese cluster. The Moralan established their own parliamentary form of government and ruled themselves for a time. However, once their Tionese allies withdrew from the system, the Hutts returned to Moralan for their revenge. The Hutts totally annihilated the Moralan forces in just a three-day battle and then proceeded to exterminate the Moralan species into extinction to send a message to their other slave species about the price of rebellion. The Hutts still celebrate their victory against the Moralan to this day on Boonta's Eve—a three day holiday that commemorates the battle from the past. Meanwhile, remains of Moralan civilization can be found throughout the shallow tides of their former planet.
