Planet: Vulp Major
Table of Contents [hide]

Being one of three gas giants within the Vulpter system, Vulp Major is a characteristically large world with vast but specialized resources, many of which have remained untapped throughout the long history of Vulp Major. At one point surveyed as a potential shipyard location during the reign of the Old Republic, several visionary planners drew up plans for great floating cloud cities skidding through the upper atmosphere trailing long tethers to extract materials from deep within Vulp Major. As is usually the case with such grand plans, reality got in the way, both in the equipment needed for such deep-core liquid mining and in the form of the collapse of the Old Republic. The grand plans for Vulp Major as a center of commerce, production, and resources to fuel the expansion of this region of the galaxy were shelved in the face of growing civil unrest and outright war as the Republic tore itself apart. In modern times, even as the major powers simmer in a constant cold war of opinion and espionage, many have begun to turn their eye to the virtually untouched expanses of Vulp Major. More than a few people have seen those old plans and those same people are the ones dictating policy in the new regimes.

Aside from the virtually pristine condition of this ball of gas, there is little to distinguish Vulp Major from any other large gas giant within the Koro-Teta sector or even beyond it. Toxic gases, variable pressures and a turbulent atmosphere all combine to form a vast expanse of more or less uninhabitable world, aside from the presence of some curiously evolved microscopic forms of life. The most common of these minuscule creatures is a form of simple bacteria which is essentially a bag of gas ringed by spore pods. Filling itself with lighter gases, the Sannacian Burster rises high enough in the atmosphere to be picked up in the massive air currents. Due to its outer surface being coated in highly reactive compounds, the additional friction of its movement causes it to literally explode, scattering its seeds back into the lower atmosphere. Several bio-weapon projects have examined the creature, but nothing has come of such research to date.
