Planet: Bastion
Table of Contents [hide]

Bastion is a large rocky world circling around the star Sartinaynian in the Braxant sector of the Outer Rim. Despite the sparsity of major bodies of water like expansive oceans and seas, the planet is a verdant emerald globe of rolling plains and lush forests, but which are continuously encroached upon by the increasing expansion of industry and urbanisation. Its oceans - while not heavily polluted - have lost much of their clarity and pristine gleam, while even the desert areas of the planet have been adapted to house an ever-increasing population. Its volcanically active regions are heavily exploited for their ore and mineral riches, fuelling much of the industrial development and growth on the planet.

While Bastion is a rocky world that is significantly larger than most other terrestrial planets, it does not have a higher or more significant gravitational pull due to its lower density. This is a result of the crustal granite that makes up much of Bastion’s crust, as well as the composition of its planetary core. The standard gravitational pull of the world makes it a pleasant celestial orb to inhabit for both sentient and non-sentient species. Herds of banthas and nerfs roam the remaining open grassy plains, while the thrantas introduced into the planet’s ecosystem long ago roam the skies above. Quizzers and akk dogs hunt the little critters crawling through the forest undergrowth, while the more vicious and dangerous nexu are given a wide berth by woodland wanderers.

Bastion - originally named Sartinaynian - was settled by Humans from the Core Worlds during the Old Republic era. These settlers had left the confines of the nascent Galactic Republic as an act of opposition to the Senate’s decision to allow alien species to be seated among its ranks as full members. Ironically, the Human citizens of Bastion (which was still named Sartinaynian at that time) relied heavily on financial backing and support from the Muuns of nearby Muunilinst to maintain their colony and settlements. Eventually, the world and its people returned into the fold of the Republic, but its xenophobic tendencies took many centuries to begin to subside. In the millennia that followed, the planet remained economically tied to the banks and businesses from Muunilinst, even after the Republic’s transformation into the Galactic Empire. As the planet became a meeting place for the Imperial moffs and housed many state archives, Sartinaynian was renamed Bastion to signify its status within the new Imperial order. Yet, during the reign of Emperor Vodo Bonias, the Empire’s presence within the Braxant sector diminished in favour of protecting the Core Worlds, and the planet was eventually relinquished from Imperial control after its archives were thoroughly swept. Today, the people of Bastion remain closely affiliated with the Muuns, and more recently with a transportation corporation called SYT Transport.

Bastion is a cosmopolitan world with a diverse population that includes various alien species. In the past, the planet was known for its xenophobic tendencies, and as a result, few aliens chose to call it home. Those who did were often treated as second-class citizens and faced systemic discrimination. However, in recent decades, the situation has changed significantly, and Bastion is now a much more tolerant and inclusive world. Aliens like the Aleena, Anx, and Zabraks are enjoying better treatment and living conditions on the planet, while the dominant Human population has largely abandoned its xenophobic tendencies. Nonetheless, the communities of Muuns who reside on the planet still enjoy a privileged status due to their economic influence, and some pockets of discrimination and intolerance still exist among Bastion’s Imperial aligned citizens.
