Planet: Koobi VIII
Table of Contents [hide]

Koobi VIII is a typical continental planet with a varied landscape stretching across its surface. Geographically, the southern continent is dominated by a massive volcanic plateau that cradles a vast expanse of cold desert. A large body of water stretches across the equator and separates multiple smaller landmasses in the northern hemisphere, where idyllic plains and hills form a serene landscape that continues to inspire many artists from the Outer Rim in their works of art. Koobi VIII's polar caps are relatively small when compared to other worlds, and it is assumed that the planet has gone through multiple periods of global warming that have resulted in the shrinking of the polar caps.

The Koobi star system was brought into the galactic community by explorers from the planet Bothawui roughly six centuries ago, alongside the system's sentient but still primitive natives living on Nelvaan. Shortly thereafter, Bothan colonists arrived on Koobi VIII and established their first settlements on the northern continents, taking great care to preserve the natural beauty of the rolling plains and hills. Three centuries later, during the period known as the High Republic, colonists from all over the galaxy arrived on the planet in a second colonisation wave that sparked the world's greatest boom to date. New centres of industry and trade arose alongside the original Bothan settlements, with mining operations being launched into the volcanically active parts of the planet's uninhabited southern hemisphere. Yet, while Koobi VIII's population and relative prosperity had grown significantly, the world remained a small, quiet peripheral planet in the Outer Rim.

During the Clone Wars, tensions between the original Bothan communities and the second wavers rose rapidly, until they boiled over into a civil war when the latter sided with the Separatists, and the former with the Republic. The conflict drove many of the descendants of the second wave colonists away from the planet, which severely stunted Koobi VIII's economic growth and stability. As a result, a period of regression followed that saw the world largely ignored by the galactic community until the arrival of the Rebel Alliance on the planet and its subsequent takeover in recent times. A new wave of immigrants saw the partial restoration of Koobi VIII's pre-Clone Wars economy, as once-abandoned cities in the northern hemisphere were repopulated, with Bothan citizens proudly standing in league with the Rebel Alliance.
