Often dubbed "The Crimson Planet" or "The Planet of Blood," Nar Kaaga II's blood-red colour is the result of two separate cloud layers, each containing a diverse mixture of elements. The two cloud layers rotate in opposite directions, and the resulting movement causes heat lightning to form between them. To an observer, the clouds surrounding these events appear to glow in beautiful shades of purples and other brilliant blues.

Those traveling into the atmosphere should be cautious; several ships have been reported missing after being caught in some of the more severe lightning storms. Whether these ships were simply ionized and fell into the gas giant's dense surface or were completely vaporized by the lightning, remains a topic of much speculation and debate.
