If planets have distant cousins, then Clak’Dor III must be Tatooine’s second or third cousin. The entire planet is covered in desert. A relatively hot temperature but breathable atmosphere means the planet can be colonized, assuming there are still colonists left crazy enough to take such a venture. Besides the occasional shrubs associated with deserts, and some extremely stubborn small reptilian creature, Clak’Dor III is devoid of life.
A brief study of Bith history actually has the explanation for the status of Clak’Dor III being so devoid of life. Before the Bith had even been discovered by the fabled Old Republic, the species had discovered sublight travel and had explored the worlds of their system. During this time, the Bith were a very aggressive species, a characteristic long since lost to time. On the planet of Clak’Dor III another sentient species was discovered, one that had not developed space travel. The Bith watch over the species to determine just what would become of them. The inhabitants of Clak’Dor III were quick learners and soon began to launch their own ships out into space. Unfortunately for them, one of their spaceships accidentally collided with, and destroyed, a Bith colony ship. Outraged that an inferior race would dare strike at Bith colonists, the leaders on Clak’Dor III ordered the entire race destroyed.
The ensuing bombardment of Clak’Dor III stripped the planet of all sentient life and reduced the atmosphere to a point where almost no radiation was kept out. Forests, grassland and water sources shriveled away from the heat until all that was left on the planet was desert. Several hundred years after the attack, and after the Bith had evolved past their natural aggression, the Bith leadership discovered the archives of the event. They immediately sent ships to investigate the status of the planet, but upon discovering the desert planet, they realized it was too late to apologize for their predecessors’ decisions.
