Although the system has been regarded as having little strategic importance, mainly because of its lack of planets, astrophysicists and lovers of astronomy find Rigneldia quite fascinating. A rather heated debate now rages within the scientific community over whether Rigneldia I is actually a moon of Rigneldia II or not.
Another item of much debate relates to the habitats found in the system's planets. Some argue that those supported on Rigneldia I and II should not be possible, given their proximity to the system's sun, while their opponents argue that because Rigneldia has a red sun, such ecosystems can easily be found at their locations. The arguments are not likely to be settled any time in the near future.
While Rigneldia I & II are capable of supporting life, there are no known native sentient lifeforms on either planet. The only sentient beings residing there are colonists and workers who have been brought in by some of the galaxy's larger mining corporations.
