Description:
Pelerion is the third planet in the Celanon system. The planet has a harsh environment, and has no atmosphere of any significance. Due to its incredible quantity of minerals, it served as a research and manufacturing base for the Valathorians and the Doyielian colony.
Planetary scans from Celanon returned describing Pelerion as extremely hot, unpredictable, but that it also possessed mineral quantities and concentrations unheard of on Celanon or Valathor. Scientists from both worlds worked together and immediately developed a research base capable of withstanding the extreme heat, and dispatched it to Pelerion.
Arriving during the beginning of the “cool” season, for 5 months, scientists had no troubles adapting their equipment and research practices to the heat of Pelerion. However, at the time, they were not expecting the planet to switch back into a warmer season. Within a month, the outer shell of the base was beginning to soften, and the internal air pressure started to deform the metal. Realizing their plight far to late to save the base, many of the scientists were able to evacuate the base just before one of the armor plates in the research bay blew out, creating a massive explosion, completely vaporizing the entire base.
Eager to continue the study, but not eager to repeat the same mistake, the scientists created a new base, much less hastily this time, and it was designed to withstand nearly twice the heat of the first base. Also, the base contained a larger version of their newest technology, repulsorlifts, allowing them to move the base if necessary. This feature came in handy when a volcano began to form under the ground where the base was located.
Once the environmental issues were dealt with, the base began to make huge strides in manufacturing, resource development, and starship technology. New sublight drives were developed and hyperdrive technology was discovered. An expedition was immediately sent to locate and determine the status of their original home planet. No traces of the planet were found, but during their survey, a survey starship dropped from hyperspace right in front of them to study the remnants of the Doyielian star. Contact was established, and the expedition returned far more successful then they could have possibly imagined.
While research has slowed somewhat, Pelerion is still used primarily as a mining and manufacturing facility for Celanon and Valathor, with almost 95% of all products used on Celanon and Valathor being manufactured there.
