Planet: Belkadan
Table of Contents [hide]

Located within the farthest reaches of the galactic plane in the Dalonbian sector, Belkadan is the only terrestrial planet within its star system. It is a world devoid of any significant surface water and consists of one gargantuan interconnected landmass of dense rainforests and vast boulder fields. The jungles are home to the native Dalloralla trees, which are capable of growing up to thirty metres tall, and their branches grow in unique patterns which filter the sunlight from the world’s primary into often mesmerising patterns. Endemic subspecies of eye-snatchers roam the thick canopy of these jungle lands, while gundarks and acklays prey on the particularly unwary who enter their verdant domain.

Despite its vast distance from the galactic core, Belkadan has been a part of galactic history for roughly thirty-thousand years. It was then that the ancient Rakata had discovered the rocky jungle-world and made it a part of their Infinite Empire. As a result, the planet often became the target of archaeological expeditions in the millennia after the collapse of the Rakatan empire, intent on studying the ruins and technology they had left behind. Such expeditions were even undertaken by entities like the Jedi Order, who sent the illustrious Jedi Master and archaeologist Yuon Par to study the historic sites of the planet roughly four thousand years ago. Shortly thereafter, Belkadan became the site where the Great Galactic War between the Republic and the Sith Empire started, after Imperial agents had managed to overthrow the planetary government and trap a portion of the Republic fleet in-system as a result.

These days, Belkadan is not a heavily populated planet but hosts a number of cities and urban conglomerations nonetheless. As the world has had a long history of being the source of medical resources and supplies, it is home to a number of leading research institutions and academies specialising in the art of both modern and alternative medicine, with one of their most notable investors being Biotech. While these centres of science and study attract peoples from across the galaxy, Belkadan’s population consists primarily of Humans and mostly minorities of alien species native to the Dalonbian sector, such as the martial Cilare or the pale-skinned Sernpidalians. As the lush rainforests of the planet are home to many predators and other intriguing lifeforms, the world also attracts huge numbers of game hunters and thrill seekers each year, all in pursuit of valuable trophies and stories to tell.
