The force pike is a popular weapon and one of the primary tools used by the Imperial Royal Guard; it was originally marketed with a pithy reference to its common use by the Guard, "Reach out and touch somebody." The force pike is a deadly weapon; its long reach and precision provide advantages on the battlefield or in crowd control situations, which is why it can also be seen in use by a wide variety of planetary militias and police forces.
Perhaps one of the greatest advantages of the weapon is its design. Appearing simple and archaic to the naked eye, it often gives the opponents of a pike-wielder a false sense of security in the initial stages of battle, and by the time the opponents figure out the truth regarding the debilitating or deadly force of the pike, it's too late.
This weapon, as aforementioned, appears simple yet is technologically advanced. It consists of a long pole tipped with a vibro edge and stun module, which are each able to be set to various levels determined by the wielder. In stun mode, the force pike sends an electrical arc from its tip to the surface of the being or object struck; at minimum, the current can render almost any sentient being incapacitated for several minutes and at worst, it can kill. With the vibro edge set to its highest setting, the pike can cleave through flesh, bone and even the strongest armours. Due to its extreme versatility, the pike is often employed during boarding actions since it allows attackers to slice through bulkheads and airlocks, but is still small enough to be functional in small corridors.
