Crew quarters are temporary housing units designed to accommodate flight personnel. They are similar in purpose to barracks but are designed with the needs of pilots and ground crews in mind rather than infantry. While far from luxurious, the crew quarters offer its residents a spacious, climate-controlled environment that permits them to relax and recuperate from their missions, or from the drudgery of shift rotations, safely and more comfortably than they could aboard ship. In addition to numerous dormitories, a cafeteria, and bathing facilities, the crew quarters also feature conference space for staff to be briefed on upcoming flights and recreation rooms for light entertainment. Crew quarters are typically situated in close proximity to the landing pads, hangars, docks, or garages they serve, allowing the residents to be on deck and ready for duty at a moment's notice. While highrises and skyscrapers are more appropriate for long-term habitation, the crew quarters are an ideal solution for itinerant professionals.
