The Scrubber droid is a maintenance unit originally designed by the research team of Industrial Automaton, created to capitalize on market demand for an automated clean-up system to handle spills and disposal of hazardous wastes and chemicals. The original production run was very successful, netting the company several large government contracts, and Scrubber droids have been seen all across the galaxy ever since.

Since the Scrubber droid was intended to clean mostly hazardous chemicals, the design was kept simple with a focus on reliability and durability. The basic shape of the Scrubber droid is a durasteel box fitted with chemical seals protecting the sensitive internal wiring and controls. Enclosed reservoirs contain a variety of neutralizing foams, powders, and cleaning solutions allowing the Scrubber droid to handle most any kind of spill. Two chemical sniffers are installed to help identify specific compounds and detect hazardous conditions while it cleans, and the droid is also equipped with fire suppression devices to extinguish any unexpected combustion. An on-board transmitter array allows constant communication with a central computer guiding dispatch and maintenance efforts. The characteristic industrial yellow housing and red warning blinkers grabs visual attention, while speakers advise caution in a variety of galactic languages

With its uncomplicated, rugged, and utilitarian construction, many other droid manufacturers have copied the design of the Scrubber droid, distributing them all across the galaxy and making them commonplace units in top-class shipyards, back alley hangars, starports, garages, foundries, mines, laboratories, stations, and other facilities throughout the galaxy.
