Heavy Transport Barges are a classification of heavy lift repulsorlift vehicles specialised in transporting large loads of cargo within an atmosphere. The class' repulsorlift capability means that the heavy transport barge can move cargo over almost any terrain and in most weather conditions. The sealed hull can be pressurised if needed, allowing these vehicles to function even in toxic or vacuum environments. While this class of vehicle is optimised for transporting cargo, they can also transport up to a platoon of fully equipped infantry behind the front lines, or a decent number of civilian workers bound for construction projects. Heavy transport barges are generally unarmed, as they are intended to serve far from conflict areas. Even on worlds where lawlessness is more pronounced, they would operate in convoys, depending on armed escort vehicles to keep criminal elements at bay. The vehicles class also tends to be rather slow compared to lighter repulsorlift class, but this is an accepted compromise to keep costs lower - speedy delivery of heavy loads can be done by much more expensive starships if needed. All in all, heavy transport barges serve a critical logistics purpose throughout the galaxy and will continue to do so into the foreseeable future.
