The Assassin maintains the standard compliment of Turbolasers and Heavy Lasers, though it adds a pair of tractor beams to the arsenal. The tractor beams can be effective at stalling or hindering the escape of fighters and even small freighters. Another addition to the Assassin is the inclusion of a docking bay. The docking bay is capable of holding multiple starships, depending on their sizes, which allows the ship to be used as a small carrier should the mission dictate. In particular these two large additions allow the Assassin to move beyond the original CR-90's limited role and still keep it effective at combating fighters, while remaining a good all-around war vessel.
The Assassin, like its predecessor, has an excellent array of sensors which give the ship an edge during patrols or scouting missions. While the ship has exceptional sublight speed, making it very agile compared to most other capital starships, it is rather sluggish during hyperspace travel. Because of its small size the ship boasts only average shielding and hull strength, however, this is not a disadvantage as it allows the Assassin to enter the atmosphere of a planet and land on the ground, a capability largely coveted. Overall the Assassin is a versatile starship that can be employed in a variety of ways and has found a respected niche in many government, paramilitary, and private fleets.
