Located in the heavily populated Ansion system, Soltan is the fourth planet from the star. Lacking any form of liquid water or flora to replenish an atmosphere, the surface is exposed to the vacuum of space. Eons of sunlight warming the rocky terrain and several regions of volcanic activity heating the crust have resulted in a dry, baked landscape. Vacuum suits insulated against heat are required for surface walks.

Colonized by multiple expeditions from the Republic over a thousand years ago, Soltan has become an industrial powerhouse despite the hostile environment. Ore is abundant throughout the otherwise barren topography. With several more hospitable planets located nearby in the system, as well as two gas giants capable of proving tibannagas, Soltan was quickly realized as a prime site for harvesting valuable mineral ores. Large manufacturing cities sprung to life across the rocky expanses just decades after the first major wave of colonists arrived. Before long, the planet was a major producer of weapons and munitions. As the business of selling arms boomed, the factory-like cities expanded and grew until they covered large portions of the landscape and incorporated amenities and services catering to those working in the industrial zones.

Over the last hundred years, manufacturing on Soltan has slowly diversified into almost every market segment. Weapons and munitions, while still produced in the massive factory cities, no longer dominate the planet’s industry. Large entertainment districts draw tourists to the planet, with shockball tournaments and speeder bike races weaving between the large city structures making up for the planet’s lack of natural appeal. The most prominent districts afford visitors large indoor spaces with modern, stylish shopping plazas. One is likely to forget the hostile environment outside as they wander the elevated walkways above a curated forest, the Ansion sunlight casting a golden glow through the glass-domed ceiling a hundred meters overhead.

While owned by an interplanetary financial conglomerate claiming to be neutral in all galactic conflicts, Soltan has recently been accused of producing and stockpiling munitions of unknown design, allegedly in preparation for a yet to be determined conflict. Spokespeople for the industries of Soltan have dismissed these claims as baseless slander and conspiracy theories.
