Planet: Forntay
Table of Contents [hide]

Nestled within the Wornal sector of the Mid Rim lies the planet Forntay, a terrestrial world that is characterised by a distinct lack of surface water. Instead, the primary hydrosphere of this celestial orb is located beneath its surface, where subterranean creeks and hot springs spread across the globe and supply flora and fauna with much-needed hydration. The prevalence of these underground sources of water, and in particular the humidity that they produce, has resulted in a largely balmy climate across Forntay, which would have otherwise been an unbearably dry world like Tatooine or Jakku. As a result, a vertical stretch of dry desert bisects the planet into two, separating the expansive landmass into two massive halves of extensive shrublands and prairie grasslands. Packs of endemic subspecies of gizka can be found migrating across these vast plains, taking shelter among numerous herds of nerfs which have been imported from across the galaxy to aid in the establishment of a thriving agricultural sector on the planet. Larger and more dangerous creatures can be spotted within the sandy dunes of this world’s desert lands, such as the desert drake, a native subspecies distantly related to krayt dragons, and monstrously ravenous sarlaccs that are rumoured to have been planted by Forntay’s mysterious, extinct native race.

While initially discovered by Koorivar explorers settling the nearby planet of Bomis Koori IV, Forntay was never claimed by these spacefaring humanoids. Early archeological expeditions hinted at the existence of a long-extinct race of natives that had inhabited this world aeons ago, with ancient texts uncovered from temples and cities buried beneath the sands of the central desert lands speaking of an age when the Forntay people were oppressed by an unknown alien force that was eventually driven offworld at a great cost. Out of respect for this long-dead precursor race, the deeply religious Koorivar never settled this balmy orb and treated it as a burial world held sacrosanct. As such, it wasn’t until the Clone Wars that Forntay was settled by colonists from the Separatist Alliance, after the Wornal sector came under its influence. Several decades after the war, the colonisation effort was continued by the new incarnation of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, with most of the new settlements arising near or around subterranean springs.

Since Forntay was primarily settled by citizens of the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars, its population is largely non-human. The renewed colonisation effort of recent decades has allowed for the establishment of a nascent industrial base while also developing this world’s agricultural sector by utilising the fertile shrublands and grassy plains making up the western and eastern hemispheres. While initially, the Koorivars refused to settle upon what they considered to be a sacred planet, nowadays small communities of Kooriva’s natives can be found within the growing cities of Forntay, paying homage to the brave precursors of this celestial orb by spearheading local cultural preservation efforts targeting the ancient ruined cities dotting the central desert lands.
