Recent testing by system authorities revealed many types of rare minerals present in the planet's crust and the news caused several mining corporations to express sudden and precipitous interest in setting up operations on the planet.

While less documented, there have also been persistent rumors that a pirate group has a base of operations within a series of caves on the planet. While it has been suggested that the rumors were started by a prospector to dissuade competing claims to the planet's deposits, they have led to an influx of security forces to protect the mining operations.
