Tifnyl III is a planet of stark contrasts. The glacial sheet that covers it is punctuated by rocky areas prone to high volcanic activity. With temperatures rarely rising above minus 100 degrees, attempts to settle the planet have been few and relatively unsuccessful. The areas where ice sheet meets lava produce stunning plumes of superheated steam which fan upwards and outwards before condensing and falling as freezing rain. Anything venturing too close to this phenomenon will soon find an ice coat forming quickly around it.

Two moons, Tifnyl III A and Tifnyl III B, orbit the planet. Although the moons differ in size they share a remarkably similar orbit, albeit on opposing sides of the planet.

Tifnyl III does not have any significant flora and fauna, although explorative research has found microscopic life forms within the upper crust of the ice sheets.
