Dromund Kaas - a world perpetually covered beneath a layer of stormy clouds and endless lightning strikes - is a terrestrial planet of average size located in the Sith Worlds sector of the Outer Rim Territories. It is a place of historical significance as well as a deep connection to the Dark Side of the Force, as rumours and legends from long ago continue to speak of terrible Sith rituals inflicted upon this world that transformed its atmosphere into a physical manifestation of the Dark Side itself, ensuring that the light from its primary would rarely reach the surface. Instead, intermittent rays of sunlight penetrate the thick cloud cover, casting fleeting glimpses of light on the planet's surface. The planet's rainy climate is generally colder than average, with temperatures regularly dipping to just above freezing.
The rain-soaked and planetwide jungles and rainforests that once dominated the surface of Dromund Kaas have long since receded, with many speculating that the corrupting and draining presence of Dark Side energy on this world is to blame. Where once the towering and mighty amphibious jurgorans lumbered through the thick undergrowth of an endless canopy, they now march across the perpetually wet sandy wastes to reach the patches of rainforests that still persist. Similarly, the fierce and territorial yozusks with their rocky protrusions on their backs no longer find shelter in the shadows of Dromund Kaas' tallest trees and prevalent fungal growth, and now primarily hunt and prowl along the coast of the world's sole body of water on the southern hemisphere. The disappearance of the jungles and rainforests on Dromund Kaas had also caused the extinction of many native species, which eventually had led to the import of non-indigenous fauna such as hawkbats, kryknas, and dewbacks in the millennia after the fall of Vitiate's Sith Empire.
The withdrawal of the verdant canopy of planetwide jungle also exposed many of the ancient Sith ruins and temples dotting the surface of Dromund Kaas. Massive burial complexes that were once inaccessible due to the thick undergrowth of the endless rainforests or small shrines that used to be totally obscured beneath layers of native flora now lie completely exposed to the elements and the ambitions of treasure hunters still hoping to find new bounties in the already thoroughly scoured and empty stone halls of the ancient Sith.
To this day, Dromund Kaas remains a populated and civilised world with many of its inhabitants still residing within the massive metropolis of Kaas City, the ancient stronghold built by Vitiate's followers. While the pureblooded Sith are long gone and but a mere memory, their culture and traditions continue to be preserved and celebrated by the planet's modern day citizenry. Many humans whose families have resided on Dromund Kaas for generations keep detailed records proving their ancestry to the Imperials of the old Sith Empire, while anti-alien sentiments have always caused the communities of aliens that had settled on the planet to be treated as second class citizens. Similarly, the ancient lightning spires that have drawn in the endless barrage of lightning strikes plaguing the world's surface for millennia continue to harness the atmosphere's turbulent energy, and power the cities of Dromund Kaas. With so much of the ancient Sith still influencing the planet's way of life, it should come as no surprise that the Galactic Empire was warmly welcomed by the citizens of perpetually rain-soaked Dromund Kaas in recent times.
