Planet: Blimph III
Table of Contents [hide]

The only temperate planet in the Blimph system, Blimph III is distinguished from its sibling planets by its east-west axis of rotation. The gigantic, glacial slabs smothering its poles remain permanently frozen due to a combination of the planet's relatively circular orbit around the Blimph sun and its low degree of tilt. The blue ice expanses are well-received by tourists. However, with the recent industrial movements in the more temperate northern regions, many conservation groups have begun to fear that the beautiful and frigid ecosystem may be disturbed and they have petitioned the government to disallow further industrialization.

Blimph III is home to a few sprinklings of lush jungles which are nearly untouched, except for the occasional spartan village hidden amongst its trees. The secluded settlements are indicative of the main problem hindering Blimph III's development: the isolation of so many of its populace. However, it is also a historic condition. The majority of the planet is covered in a vast desert and rocky foothills and its natives spent thousands of years living nomadic existences. Many of Blimph III's modern cities are descended from these roaming tribes who traveled from place to place and rarely came into contact with one another; though, they may have preferred the separation. As the only large bodies of water on Anagrin are oceans with abnormally high salinity levels, the planet's oral history tells of several 100-year wars that were fought over the handful of sources of fresh water available throughout the year.

Though in modern times, economic competition rarely leads to armed conflict, droughts are a common occurrence on Blimph III and at one time they could decimate the population in a single year just like the plagues of other planets. Even today, water remains the most valuable commodity on the rolling dunes of the Anagrinian Desert. Tourists, however, have found a use for the planet's two undrinkable oceans and visit to float in the buoyant waters which many claim to have restorative powers.
