The planet Ebaq is located in Sector 5, in the Ebaq system. It is a Class-7 gas giant, and there have been many speculations as to the state of its core. Some scientists, including the noted researcher Doctor B'haal, say that it has a solid core that with a high molten iron content, which provides the powerful gravitational field that has proved hazardous to passing ships that are smaller than a frigate. This gravitational field also makes hyperspace travel in the vicinity of the planet impossible, due to the high amount of polaric friction in the planet's atmosphere. Ebaq was discovered approximately forty-three years ago, a few days after the system was discovered. The ship that first sighted the planet went in for closer readings and was destroyed. Ebaq's gaseous "surface", for lack of a better word, is almost completely gaseous at the upper layer, and approximately 300 kilometers deeper, it is liquid. Scientific stations will soon be established on the planet, but they are not a high priority, given the non-strategic location of the planet. All Imperial ships are to stay alert in that sector, as Rebel sightings are common around Ebaq. Military strategists suspect that the rebels have a secret outpost in that area.
