Planet: Thesme IV
Table of Contents [hide]

Located in the northern domains of the Outer Rim Territories lies the planet Thesme IV, a world that is always on the brink of obscurity despite being the sector capital of the Thesme sector. A major contributing factor to this is the fact that the planet falls just outside the reach of the Hydian Way, the famous super-hyperroute bisecting the galaxy. With the planets along this major hyperlane attracting a vast majority of the wealth and trade that passes through it, only a modest portion flows in the direction of the Thesme sector capital. Despite this, or perhaps in because of it, Thesme IV grew to become a highly urbanised world with a well-developed planetary industry over the millennia since its colonisation, with a population that is fiercely patriotic and devoted to preserving their relevance in the local interstellar neighbourhood.

Thesme IV was originally colonised by refugees fleeing the oppression and conquests of Xim the Despot’s empire from roughly twenty five thousand years ago. While the planet still fell under the influence of Xim’s rule through his relentless conquests - which set in a period of great suffering for the system’s inhabitants - the world eventually regained its independence and the Humans on Thesme IV established a planetary monarchy. Despite its initial exclusivity to Humans, the planetary nobility eventually started allowing non-Humans into their ranks due to their major contributions to their homeworld’s development as well as their prevalence throughout its society, which resulted in Thesme IV becoming one of the few worlds in the galaxy where its aristocracy had significant multi-species representation. Despite its culture of tolerance and openness, the sole major feat the planet managed to achieve was to secure its status as sector capital of the Thesme sector. However, it failed to obtain any greater prominence or relevance on the galactic stage beyond that in the millennia that followed. Even during the Clone Wars, when the world’s senator seceded from the Galactic Republic in an impassioned speech to the Senate pointing out the flaws of its system of government, few in the Rotunda knew who she was let alone remembered the name of the world she committed to the cause of the Separatist Alliance.

The citizens of Thesme IV are raised with a deep-seated love and commitment to their homeworld. As a result, few who are born on the planet choose to leave the vast urban sprawl that covers most of its landmass, and build a life off-world. Those who do are often shunned by their families and social environment, with only a rare few who return being accepted back into society. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that the planetary monarch - traditionally styling themselves king or queen - is a crucial symbol of unity for the native population of Thesme IV, with their status being surrounded by a great deal of ceremony and ritual that must be observed at all times. In fact, any breach of protocol or failure to adhere to the myriad customs and traditions surrounding the world’s monarch is severely punished by the enigmatic yet fearsome Royal Guard. Their nickname, the “Shadow Guard” leaves no doubts as to their reputation - with even outsiders being shown no leeway or mercy. The fact that the reigning queen comes from a long line of Human-Zabrak hybrids detracts nothing from the stature of the ruling dynasty, as Thesme IV has known planetary monarchs from many different species over the course of its long history.
