There have been numerous mining expeditions established on the desolate landscape of Polos since rumors of its rich mineral wealth first reached the core systems. However, it has proven difficult for most companies to find and retain workers who are capable of withstanding an extended stay on the planet. The high turnover among miners on Polos has been blamed on the stifling habitats which are necessitated by the toxic atmosphere, subzero temperatures, and impassable terrain. These difficulties, coupled with the inherent dangers of operating underground on a planet with constant volcanic activity, left Polos virtually untouched for thousands of years.
