Planet: Epsom Asteroid Belt I
Table of Contents [hide]

The farthest celestial body from the brown dwarf at the center of the system, Epsom Asteroid Belt I was only recently discovered and charted by explorers from the Krath Dynasty. Due to its incredibly unique composition, the asteroid escaped detection by earlier explorers despite being nearly as large as the primary planet in the system. The surface of the asteroid is covered in massive deposits of magnesium chloride, which can be found in the vast quantities of salt on the planetoid. Mountains and valleys made entirely of salt rise and fall for hundreds of meters across the asteroid's surface, completely covering the rocky body and obscuring it from long-range sensors.

The prevailing theory from Krath geologists holds that Epsom Asteroid Belt I is a large fragment of the planet Epsom. Samples taken from the rocky surface below the salt deposits are full of fossilized flora and fauna consistent with oceanic life. The origin of the salt is hypothesized to have come from the flash boiling of the entire planet's ocean during a solar flare impact from the failing brown dwarf star. The instantaneous evaporation left behind massive salt deposits, which then broke away from the planet of Epsom as it disintegrated.

The resulting deposits of salt are known for their incredible quality and are the system's best-known economic export. Bathed in the radiation of the brown dwarf, the salt is organically ionized, sterilized and advertised as being imbued with near-mystical healing properties when mixed with warm water. These salts are imported in large quantities by wealthy clients from all over the galaxy to enrich their luxurious baths and pools.
