A tropical rocky planet within the Cronese Mandate, Argai is a world with a rich history that stretches back to the times before the founding of the Republic roughly twenty-five thousand years ago. It is the birthplace of two of the galaxy’s most well-known and perhaps most feared conquerors, namely Xer the Eighth and his son Xim the Despot. It was especially the latter who became a legendary figure in galactic history, whose empire stretched from the Radama Void to the edges of Hutt space. Xim made his homeworld Argai the first of his many throne worlds, and effectively the centre of his interstellar domain. As a result, the globe was well-developed by the end of the Despot’s reign and remained the cultural heart of the Cronese Mandate in the aeons that followed.

The most hospitable region on the planet is the equatorial range that was historically covered beneath a thick layer of jungle growth, before it was largely used for urban and economic development. It is within this part of the planet that the ruins of Xim the Despot’s renowned palace complex can still be visited though not much is left save scattered stones and crumbling walls. According to some scholars, the ruins still harbour undiscovered rooms and corridors filledl with the bounteous spoils of Xim’s many wars, although these must be truly well hidden to have escaped the attention of generations of treasure seekers. The few stretches of jungle that remain untouched are home to various species of flora and fauna, where endemic subspecies of acklays and rancors among others are hunted for sport by the planetary nobility. A large area of volcanic activity in the southern hemisphere of the planet is the source of much of the world’s wealth, with local and intergalactic mining corporations having significant stakes in its mineral extraction operations.

The population of Argai consists largely of Humans, but is also home to various other sentient species who are the distant descendants of the peoples that Xim the Despot had conquered and brought to his first throne world as trophies and servants all those millennia ago. Despite the fact that Argai was integrated into various regional powers that arose within this part of the galaxy across Tionese history, such as the Jaminere Marches or the first incarnation of the Tion Hegemony that joined the Galactic Republic, the Argaians remain proud and imperious to this day. Especially its nobles consider themselves the epitome of Tionese culture and hold fast to the traditions and customs that find their origin within the era of Xim the Despot. As a result, many Argaian aristocratic families claim their bloodlines can be traced back to the many children that Xim the Despot had, albeit rarely being able to provide anything more substantial than second-hand accounts or vague historic insinuations as proof. Nonetheless, this exemplifies how the legacy of the legendary conqueror from Argai remains alive today on the planet, and how Xim remains a hero of the days-gone-by to many of its citizens.
