A small, rocky planetoid located in the heart of the asteroid belt, "Object 2" is nearly inaccessible and seldom visited. What is reliably known about Epsom Asteroid Belt II comes primarily from long-range scans. Although it is known to host a small colony, the residents are deeply isolationist, and contact with the planetoid is extremely rare.

While the asteroid itself appears to be mostly rock, trace deposits of rare minerals have been speculated to exist within the planetoid's inner structure, providing the necessary mass and gravity to keep the thousands of smaller asteroids, composed of mostly ice, in orbit. While the mining and processing of fresh water from the surrounding planetoids may be profitable, large deposits of frozen methane have been detected within the ice. Should any of the deposits be ignited, Epsom Asteroid Belt II may become an incredibly different landscape instantaneously. Travel to Object 2 is strongly discouraged, and any mining activity not belonging to local colonists is strictly prohibited, due to the potential for billions of tonnes of ice, rock, and metallic debris to blast out into the void of the Epsom system.
