Planet: Dreighton
Table of Contents [hide]

Located on the edges of known space in the Dantus sector of the northern reaches of the Outer Rim lies the small rocky planet called Dreighton. It is a dry rocky world of jagged, craggy stretches that are constantly blasted by sand swept up from the desert dunes, volcanically active regions rich in minerals and ores, with much of the globe covered in a sizable urban sprawl spanning most of the planet’s surface. Its sun-baked wastes are rarely traversed by sentients save for the odd moisture farmer or outcast from the cities. This sandy realm is primarily the domain of the native sand leeches, indigenous subspecies of womp rats and slashrats, as well as lumbering dewbacks trekking across the desert lands.

While Dreighton is much smaller than most planets in the galaxy, the world still has a standard gravitational pull due to the density of its crust and core. A single day on this globe lasts twenty-five standard hours, while it completes a full rotation around its primary, a typical yellow dwarf, in about seven hundred and eighty standard days. Dreighton is the sole celestial object in its star system, and it has no lunar companion to light up its night sky.

The planet was discovered and settled in the years following the devastating Battle of Ruusan and the end of the New Sith Wars. Named after the Jedi explorer who had discovered the world and its system, Dreighton attracted a large wave of new settlers that mostly consisted of the downtrodden and displaced from the war, seeking to start anew. Despite the unpleasant but still habitable conditions of this rock-bound world, the settlements of Dreighton gradually grew into thriving metropolises over the centuries, and despite their rustic and simple architecture developed a cosmopolitan nature.

One of the most notable cities on Dreighton is the Deleran Central Grotto, a settlement almost entirely hewn into the rock of an enormous crater near the planetary equator, and protected by a large dome that wards off much of the heat and solar radiation. It was founded by Twi’lek settlers who sought to escape the destitution of their homeworld and start a better life elsewhere. The rest of the planetary urban sprawl is largely inhabited by alien races similarly accustomed to warm and dry environments, such as the Cathar, Zabrak, and Iktotchi, among others. Quite unusually, Humans are a minority on the planet, which is one of the reasons why Dreighton had been aligned with the Separatist Alliance during the Clone Wars, instead of what was perceived as the humanocentric Galactic Republic. In more recent times, this world and its people became affiliated with the communications branch of the intergalactic business sector, which had brought a thriving holomedia industry to the planet, which keenly made use of the world's extensive and efficient solar power network.
