Rounding out the complement of gas giants for the Brentaal system, Gastol possesses none of the qualities which make its cousins noticeable to anyone in the scientific or colonial circles. Size, wind speeds, atmospheric composition, and even its location are more or less completely average and as a result, the planet has been overlooked by virtually every power group and government throughout its long history; virtually, but not all. Scattered across Gastol at various altitudes below the safe zone are the remains of dozens of previous small settlements, most of which have been sabotaged or outright shot down in pitched battles within the hazy clouds. Pirates, smugglers, and terrorists have built and used these bases over the millennia and been quite successful in using them as bases for attacks on the nearby profitable trade routes, but like most such groups they eventually got careless or too brazen and were hunted back to their hidden bases and exterminated by the various groups they preyed upon. Since then such groups seem to have decided on using more cunningly hidden operations, and Gastol has once more slipped from public importance.
