Koiogra II is the second closest planet to its star, and like most other planets in its system, it is seismically and volcanically very active. Theories explaining this phenomenon cite the planet's relatively young age or aggressive gravitational relationships between Koiogra II, its sun, and its sister planets, but there is no single scientific consensus. What is agreed upon is the effect the massive lava and volcanic fields have on the planet's climate and ecology. Large amounts of soot and noxious gases that are produced by the volcanoes block light from the nearby star, chilling the planet and forming thick polar ice caps. Heat from the lava fields keeps the equatorial region thawed, and different varieties of hardy vegetation have evolved the ability to process the volcanic fumes into energy, consequentially making the atmosphere breathable for most sentients. While technically safe, many species find the smell quite pungent and disagreeable.
