Sarti is a fairly small gas giant, relatively speaking, that orbits the star Sartinaynian at a distance of seven hundred thirty million kilometres. As a cold gas world, Sarti has an average temperature of minus two hundred standard degrees on the side facing the sun and minus two hundred fifty standard degrees on the side facing away from it. The planet boasts an average solar day of thirty-seven standard hours and completes an orbit of the star every ninety local years. The planet’s atmosphere comprises approximately seventy-five percent hydrogen, with the rest comprising helium, carbon dioxide, sulphur, and oxygen. There are also some traces of rarer elements, such as tibbanagas and several hydrocarbons that are extracted for use in local industries.
Apart from the tibbanagas extraction and processing industry, which is common to almost all gas giants in the galaxy, the planet is also well known as a hub for the production of blaster weapons of every description, from hold-out blasters to warship turbolasers, which make use of the locally available tibbanagas to help reduce costs. Several well-known weapon manufacturers have offices or factories on the planet. The next most important industry is the production of exotic materials derived from the carcasses of space-going creatures such as purrgil, streaked velker, space slugs, and such, for which there is a thriving hunting and whaling fleet based on the planet. Sarti also boasts a population of large, gas-filled creatures similar to the beldons of Bespin, reaching a size of up to seven kilometres in diameter.
Life for the millions of factory workers in the floating cities is generally better than on many other worlds, though standards vary widely from city to city, with some having high expectations of business owners in terms of keeping workers happy and some cities only having minimum standards for worker health, benefits, and living conditions. Feeding the teeming population is no small matter and is accomplished by a combination of intensive hydroponics, utilising species of plants that can grow on a substrate of air and mixed gases from the planet and artificial ones produced in factories for just this purpose, as well as processing the byproducts of tibannagas and other gas refining into organic molecules that are then further refined into a type of nutritive paste and mixed with other artificial nutrients and flavourings imported from offworld.
